Singer's husband, Tee Billz, might be jailed for suicide attempt
Under Section 327 of the Nigerian Criminal Code, anyone who is found
guilty of attempted suicide will face at least one year in prison.
Tunji Balogun, a.k.a Tee Billz, the estranged husband of Mavins Record singer, Tiwa Savage, may face a prison term for attempted suicide under the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, report says.
Tee Billz was reported to have attempted committing suicide on Thursday, April 28, 2016, at the Ikoyi-Lekki bridge in Lagos.
According to TheNet.ng, under the laws of the country, anyone caught attempting suicide is liable to face a year in prison.
Section 327 of the Nigerian Criminal Code states that "Any person who attempts to kill himself is guilty of a misdemeanour and liable to imprisonment for 1 year".
TheNet.ng,
who noted through a lawyer explained that no one has been convicted for
attempted suicide. However, Tee Billz might be on his way to become the
first.
TheNet.ng. further noted that "such
cases are usually handled by medical personnel who assess the mental
state of the individual and try to offer treatment for depression and
other mental disorders."
Tee Billz was reported to be likely to get a pardon for his alleged use of cocaine.
"Most
legal systems focus on possession or possession with the intention to
distribute. So it would be more defamatory than actionable for someone
to make such accusations in the media since he who alleges must prove".
In her video interview with ThisDay's Azuka Ogujuiba, Tiwa Savage revealed her marriage challenges with Tee Billz to the world, causing mixed reactions.
While some blamed her for being too open, others think her revelation concerning her marriage was a brave act.
